Narcissus by kokachu Narcissus by kokachu
another mucha inspired piece because he's awesome <3

in the language of flowers daffodils/narcissus mean "return my affection" which goes along with this piece because *secretsecret*this is my wedding dress...ish*secretsecret*

modified this for the design behind her head: [link]

here's the designs used for the backgrounds: [link]

about 60 hours, no reference used besides generic narcissus photos and the link above, HB mechanical pencil, graphite powder, moleskine sketchbook
art (c) meeeee

I meant to comment on this and another drawing that I placed in my favorites not long ago, so forgive me for the delay. I just love your drawings. The shading is great, and I just love her eyes - they were the first that I really was drawn to. I'll be looking forward to seeing more of your art~.

This is very nice, I can't really see anything that needs improvement in this piece it all comes together quite nicely. The folds on the clothing are done exceptionally well though :)

:D Thanks for saying so! I'm still working on rendering fabric textures and folds without references, so I really appreciate it.

This is a beautiful piece. I love all of the design of the dress and the detail work on all of the folds. Likewise for the hair. She looks quite elegant and pretty in it. The design in the background is quite interesting as well. Finally, the Sepia colouring of the image works surprisingly well in this context since it gives it an old "ancient" tone that works well with the theme and subject of the image.

The only critique I have though, is that her left hand seems to be rather large in comparison to the right and, as such, in contrast to the rest of her figure which is quite petite.

Thanks :D I really wish I could get that antique feel again. I'd lost it when I had switched sketchbooks due to the extreme drop in quality, and I haven't been able to find a light brown/yellow toned sketchbook in the size, paper weight, and texture I want. One day...one day ^^;

I'd noticed that awhile back...I really should have acted on that gut reaction, because it is pretty evident. Thanks for the crit! :D

Don't worry, it only became obvious to me because I was specifically looking for areas of improvement to critique. I think for the most part its not necessarily noticeable unless you take a close look at it.

If you ever need any help from my end, never hesitate to ask :> I'm always happy to help out. Also, I highly, highly suggest doing figures studies from stock, even if they're just quick sketches that take you 10-20 minutes. There's a lot of free stock available on deviantART if you know where to look.

Hello Koka,

Your artwork is so beautiful. Sixty hours is a real labor of love. I admire your dedication to your craft. Mucha would be proud of you. I love the monochrome color to the entire work. The body proportions and especially the facial expression are lovely.

Thank you for sharing your artwork with us. Wish you the best of success at Planet Comicon.

Kindly,

Grant

Thank you so much for saying so! :blush: It certainly took a long time, but not only was it a growing experience as an artist, but also that the piece itself means a lot to me personally. With any luck and a heapload of time I'll be able to tackle a piece like this again one day. (Maybe after I graduate from art education school...ha!)

Best of luck in your artistic endeavors as well! :wave:

not to completely burst your bubble, but that was a happy accident ^^; although i have no doubt that's where the name came from itself, that wasn't the intention behind that piece. i was using the lesser known name of daffodils, narcissus, since they were included in the piece since it's a homage to my engagement. i generally work with the old language of flowers, and the meaning each flower holds. and we're using a lot of daffodils in the wedding also :D

but i will say that i do love greek mythology <3 so awesome!

truth! :D many things allude to others, even just on a personal level, which is why i like to use symbology with concrete objects a lot ^^; while something means something specific to me, it can have much more meaning to someone else depending on their life experiences and interests
:heart: still! i've very glad that you enjoyed it :D that's my favorite part of dA, knowing that i can bring art to the table that interests others besides myself

awe! :heart: thank you! i really, really intended for this to be my dress; i love it so much, even now...when i started trying on dresses with my mom for a laugh, i realized that i reacted really badly to having lace, or anything that itchy on my arms, chest, and shoulders :< so i had to go get a different one, even though it broke my heart. the one that i have currently is still very romantic looking, but it does need some work at the seamstress ^^;

Is it because I've been watching it so much?
